Who is the "We"?

Post-Election Day 2024: Many in the Genesis community is distraught and in shock post election. It seems that a narrative that is hateful, derisive and against our values has succeeded. We are especially concerned that many of the youth that voted for their first General Election are questioning the impact of their vote. My own daughter, who is 19 and a sophomore in College, was so proud to participate fully in the Genesis Ballot Party, was shocked at the results. I am grateful that I get to lean on my favorite organizing tool, the "one on one". Why? 1) I have never regretted being face to face with any human; 2) I need community to heal and to face my doubts; and 3) I need to invite more people into our "We".

This poem by Marge Piercy, "The Low Road," is one of my favorite poems that inspires my organizing. It was originally gifted to me by John Norton, Gamaliel Training Director and one of the best trainers I have ever witnessed. I believe that these words were created for this moment.

Want to join our "We"? We are currently planning our next steps for 2025. Would you like to join the Leadership Council? Attend a local/national event? Push for for change and step up for vulnerable community members? Contact us (for a one on one?).
